The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California (ACGA), The Sonoma Community Center, and the Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts announce an open call for functional ceramic artists to submit work to The Julia Terr Annual: A Juried Exhibition of Functional Ceramic Arts. The judge of the competition will be Forrest Lesch-Middleton of Petaluma, California. All proceeds from the show will benefit the Sonoma Community Center and the Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts.


Julia Terr was a ceramic artist from Cloverdale, California who died in a car accident in 2009. Her family and friends established a fund in her memory to support those institutions which provide continuing education in ceramic arts in the United States. The Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts has donated money and kilns to Penland School of Crafts; Ruby’s Clay Studio in San Francisco; Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine; and the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts in Helena, Montana.


The exhibition will be held in Gallery 212 of the Sonoma Community Center on September 3rd to September 26, 2012, with a gallery reception on Friday, September 7th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Eligibility

This competition is open to artists residing in the United States, 18 years of age or older. Artwork must be composed of at least 75% Clay and must be functional. All entries must be original and executed by the artist within the past two years. All works entered in this exhibtion must be for sale with the artist receiving 65% of all works sold. Proceeds collected from this exhibtion will benefit the Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts and the Sonoma Community Center.

 

Entry Fee

There is a non-refundable $25 entry fee for up to three works. Current ACGA or Sonoma Community Center Members pay $20 for up to three works.

The exhibition will be held in Sonoma Community Center’s Gallery 212 on September 3rd to September 26, 2012, with a gallery reception on Friday, September 7th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Juror Forrest Lesch-Middleton is director of Sonoma Community Center’s ceramics program, and Vice President of ACGA. Forrest has been a potter for over 20 years and co-founded the Center for Ceramic Arts and Sebastian Ward Gallery of Berkeley, California. In September of 2011 Forrest’s work was featured on the cover of Ceramics Monthly Magazine. He has a BFA from Alfred University in Ceramics and an MFA in ceramics from Utah State University.

The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California is dedicated to establishing and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and design in clay and glass with over 500 members including clay and glass artists, students, patrons and supporters, galleries, network organizations and corporate sponsors throughout California.
