Instructor:  Kala Stein

This workshop will dive deep into Kala’s recent solo exhibition “Quench”, including installation of wall work, collaborations, pricing and more. In the second part of the workshop, Kala will show techniques used to make the work in the show including overglaze decals, luster, experimental slip application, and use of cobalt sulfate. This workshop is offered through Sonoma Community Center.

All levels of artists who’d like to learn more about professional practices around gallery exhibitions, making ceramics, and/or specialized ceramic techniques applicable to pottery and sculpture are encouraged to enroll!

Kala Stein

Kala Stein


Kala Stein is an artist, designer, and educator noted primarily for her innovative mold making and casting techniques. At the intersection of craft, design, and new technologies, her work explores beauty and material possibilities through fabrication systems and experimentation. Kala has been working in clay for 22 years and received her MFA in Ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2009. She exhibits her work nationally and works with private clients on custom designs for the home and hospitality industry. After 7 years as the Director of Ceramics & Arts at Sonoma Community Center, Kala has recently returned to her studio practice full-time and partners with other female artists to offer ceramic workshops.  Learn more about her here
