About the class

Learn guitar basics with Adam Traum.

The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic introduction to guitar, including aspects of technique, note reading, chord strumming, and solo melodic playing.

Lessons are available to students from ages 16 and up. If acquiring a guitar prohibits you from being able to take the class, please reach out to our front desk at (707) 938-4626. We have a limited number available for students.

Adam works in Americana blending folk, bluegrass, outlaw singer-songwriters, country blues, and a touch of jazz in his diverse songwriting and cover arrangements. When he performs live Adam brings his passion for music to the stage with a well-polished show, tasty instrumental chops and a relaxed but powerful voice to match. As an instructor he is patient, encouraging, and clear in his instruction. Adam meets a student where they are to help them achieve their musical goals.

When you register for a class, you’ll be offered three price tiers. The middle tier comes closest to what our registration fees used to be, and covers about 50% of the full cost of your participation in the class – with the other 50% covered by community donations. The first tier creates accessibility for people with limited income, while the third tier covers the full cost of participation – so that we can use community donations to support other people’s registration costs. When you choose to register at the third tier, you directly help support the Center’s efforts to remove financial barriers for others.

The Sonoma Community Center (the Center) strives to create an inclusive, safe community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The Center is committed to creating such an environment because it brings out the fullest potential in each of us, which, in turn, contributes directly to creating a community of belonging. In order to ensure a positive, safe, and welcoming experience for everyone, all program participants are asked to abide by the following policies, community agreements, and restorative safety protocol.

About the instructor

Adam Traum

Instructor / Musician

Growing up in Woodstock, New York, Traum had a front row seat to music history. He formed his love of music watching modern roots/rock pioneers like The Band, John Sebastian and many others play their well crafted, soulfully performed songs. At the same time Adam was raiding his father’s (Happy Traum) ample record collection listening to masters of blues, country and folk for hours and doing his best to play along. After playing in several full on rock bands, Traum found the truth, beauty and honesty in the roots music he was raised around. His commitment to excellence in songwriting and musicianship translates to both his recorded and live performances.
