Maria Capdevielle
Instructor
Born to Italian immigrant parents in Venezuela, Maria Capdevielle was surrounded by the culinary world of her Central-Italian heritage, rooted in Abruzzo. As a child, she helped her mother, a caterer, make homemade pastas, sauces and rustic breads. She watched her father, a farmer in the mountains of Abruzzo, make charcuterie and salumi. Following a career in the tech industry in the Bay Area, she followed her culinary passion to the California Culinary Academy, becoming a professional Pastry Chef. She gained experience at The Rose Pistola in North Beach, The Waterfront in Embarcadero, Market Hall in Oakland, Chez Panisse in Berkeley, and The Townhouse Grill & Restaurant in Emeryville. Since 2005, she’s been teaching Italian cooking and baking. She’s the author of two cookbooks: a 2008 book about the pastries of Abruzzo (out of print) and most recently, The Secrets of Baking with Olive Oil. Maria teaches culinary classes regularly at the Community Center.
