Our Mission

The mission of our kitchen is to spark conversation through food about cuisines and cultures from around the world – in hopes that this will lead to better connections, communication, and understanding.  We believe that by teaching our children about food and it’s roots, we can help them develop a sense of independence and self-confidence through the process of feeding themselves and their families, while also encouraging their appreciation for the interdependence of community and food systems.

Our classes are focused on fun, warmth, and the true meaning of bringing the community together through food which is connection. Our culinary classes are “hands-on” with each student working at a station or in pairs with their own burners, knives, cutting boards, and ingredients.

Our Director of Culinary Arts

Chef Elise Gonzales-Sahota began her culinary journey as an intern in the  spicy restaurant Gunpowder in Hauz Khaz artisan market of New Delhi, India. Studying with homechefs and aunties across the Indian subcontinent, Elise began experimenting with local produce at her local village market in the Indian Himalayas, trying to recreate her Sonoma, hometown favorites while infusing Indian spices. After a decade of community development, international tourism and working with youth from around the globe, Elise came back to the USA and joined Sonoma Community Center as Director of Culinary Arts.
