Introducing Justine Filipello, Sonoma Community Center’s Newest Fiber Studio Artist
The Sonoma Community Center’s Fiber Arts Department, home of the popular weekly “Fiber Arts Happy Hour” will host an evening Artist Talk and Potluck with its current Fiber Studio Artist, Justine Filipello. The evening scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 from 5:30-6:30pm, is part of an ongoing series where community members are invited to meet and listen to Studio, Resident, and visiting Artists give insight into their work and their creative process.
Justine Filipello will showcase her body of artistic work including her studio projects created for the Center’s Trashion Week of events. She will also discuss her fascinating technique of creating textiles out of recycled trash bags that will be unveiled at the Saturday, April 6th Trashion Fashion Runway Show at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall.
Besides fiber arts and costume making, Filipello’s eclectic artistic expressions include photography, floristry, sculpture, collage making, drawing, painting, and poetry. As described by Justine herself, “I love color, texture, and mood. Picasso inspired my passion for artistic endeavors. I remember his work was completely different from other artists and it ignited a spark in me.”
The Sonoma Community Center invites those attending the free Artist Talk to bring a beverage or a dish to share.
