Concluding her 6-month residency, Seong Weon Joanne Lee has her first solo exhibition in Gallery 212. This body of work, “Two Tone”,  explores notions of vulnerability and strength and is comprised of thrown porcelain vessels and coil-thrown catch-alls.

The austere forms, nuanced with tradition, are an abstract representation of Lee’s craving for her home and Korean culture.  The large scale dark clay vessels mirror her feelings of strength in her new Sonoma environment, drawn from immersion and adaption during her first time living on the West coast. The contrasts in this body of work suggest a struggle for domination but is overridden by Lee’s detailed craftsmanship that delivers delicacy, balance, and a clear intention towards peaceful being and calm.

Join us to celebrate Joanne’s contribution and accomplishments in Sonoma! You can view more of her work here.

Gallery 212 is open daily 10am-4pm or by appointment.
