Join us for a day of honoring the culture & traditions of Dia de los Muertos through food, music and traditional craft making. This celebration and workshop is hosted by the La Luz Center and taught by artist Gabo Martini. Gabo will guide you to cut intricate and beautiful Papel Picado banners to take home to your altar. There will also be additional work stations so you can make marigold paper flowers and work on a collaborative Piñata that will be donated to La Luz.
This fun workshop is the 2nd in a series of five Dia de los Muertos cultural artistic workshops open to all ages and skill levels and is perfect for families. Sign-up for all five!

Gabriela Martinez (Gabo Martini) was born in Tarimoro, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1995. She received her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics from Texas State University in 2018. Her work has been exhibited in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Rockport and Houston, Texas. Martini’s work is inspired by indigenous Mexican and Native American visual traditions. Martini works with terracotta clay coated in vibrant slips reminiscent of the Mexican towns where she spent her childhood summers. She draws upon both traditional and contemporary motifs, using sgraffito to incise patterns and text into the surface of each form. She lives and works in Houston TX.
