10:00AM-12:00PM PT / 1:00-3:00PM ET
Instructor: Lisa Thorpe
The row of flags you make can grace your garden, cheer up your kitchen or be a lovely gift for someone you love!
Workshop includes a set of birds and word block prints on cotton as the jumping point for these bird theme flags. Lisa will demo techniques for colorizing black block prints using fabric pastels. Then the fabric collage fun begins! Using 5×7 inch fabric pieces as the flag base you place one colorized bird image on each flag and embellish with fabric scraps, bits of lace, rick-rack, buttons and beads you have around. Lisa will share lots of ideas and guide participants in their design process. Flags can be machine stitched, hand-stitched or a combination.
*Students must enroll by March 17th to receive Supply Kits of blocked Printed Cotton. Students need to also purchase other supplies.

I am a mixed media fiber artist and explorer. I have used many mediums over the years from fabric to painting to printing and collage but the unifying thread through all these mediums is a love of the puzzle. I like to problem solve, to piece and play with an idea until it can take shape as a visual idea. I have a degree in Design from UC Davis, and I have been teaching art to adults and children for years. I have had technique articles featured in Cloth Paper Scissors, and Quilting Arts magazines and have taught workshops in many venues.
