THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2022
5:30-8:30PM PDT

Instructor:  Robert Mahar

Location: Room 201

Perfect your hand embroidery as we embellish beautifully macabre imagery sourced from 19th Century French anatomical teaching charts and botanical illustrations. Join designer and maker Robert Mahar in this unique approach to needlework utilizing non-traditional, free-form samplers that allow you utilize your favorite embroidery stitches and their placement. Each student will select their choice of two 12”x12″ Anatomical Embroidery Samplers featuring Robert’s original collages custom printed on linen cotton canvas – just waiting to be embroidered.

The class is well suited for beginners, however, students with more embroidery experience are encouraged to join for a fun refresher course and the opportunity to apply their skills to anatomical imagery. Instruction will cover core embroidery basics and best practices, along with essential stitches and how to apply them to pre-printed designs. Options for framing or incorporating your completed embroidery panels into sewing and quilting projects will be discussed.

Your materials kit (to use in class and take home) is included in your class fee. It contains: two custom 12”x12” samplers; a limited palette of 6-strand embroidery floss; wood embroidery hoop; embroidery needle; practice fabric; instructional diagrams.

Note! If you have favorite embroidery tools or prefer specific colors of embroidery floss (6-strand or perle cotton) you are encouraged to have these items on hand for the workshop.
