About the class

Discover the joy of tap dancing in our Beginner Tap Dance class, designed for children aged 6 to 10 years! This class introduces students to the fundamentals of tap dance while fostering rhythm, coordination, and confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Dancers will learn foundational steps such as shuffles, flaps, and cramp rolls, building towards simple combinations and routines. Through engaging exercises and dynamic music, students will develop timing, musicality, and precision.

Perfect for beginners or those with some experience, this class encourages creativity and self-expression while building essential dance skills. Step into the world of tap and let the rhythm move you!

No prior experience required—just bring your tap shoes and enthusiasm to dance!

Recital on Sunday, March 16th. More info on recital soon.

SUPPLY LIST: Tap shoes of any color and style,  Comfortable clothing to move in  or dancewear such as leotards, skirts, skirted leotards and tights (with shoes) of any color or style. Please no tutus or pajamas in class. Hair pulled off  face. Dress in layers as it can go from chilly to warm fast! Being dressed and ready for class is part of the experience and encourages focus and participation. You can find tap shoes at  Discount Dance Supply.com , Amazon, Capezio.com, and Bloch.com  and sometimes Target for Kid’s sizes. Any color and style will do. Not necessary for the first class, may wear hard soled shoes.

About the instructor

Tiffany Carter

Instructor / Dancer

Tiffany Carter-Holman grew up performing in South Lake Tahoe under the direction of Marcia Sarosik Dance Studio. She has a Bachelors of Arts in Music and has been a professional singer and songwriter for 15 years. She has overseen and directed theatre programs and dance camps for kids, toured across the United States performing in various variety music shows and currently writes country/americana music. Her favorite style of dance is Tap Dance as it incorporates her passion for music and rhythm through percussive footwork. Tiffany loves teaching kids and adults alike and has been sharing her passion for over 20 years.

  • Welcomes participants from beginning through advanced. Instructor provides a balanced and flexible curriculum suitable for participants with any level of experience.
  • Beginning
  • Participant has little to no experience with this medium and needs or expects guidance at every step during the class. Participant wants to learn about materials, techniques, and vocabulary of the medium.
  • Intermediate
  • Participant is comfortable with the medium and expects both guidance and time to work alone with the medium.
  • Advanced
  • Participant is very confident with all aspects of the medium. Participant is self-motivated; ready to experiment and develop their artistic voice.

We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class. 

Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee, or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.

Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed. You may reach out to the program directors directly, or the Program Associate Sean Baskin at sean@sonomacommunitycenter.org to request a late addition.
