Experiments in Mixed Media Painting
October 6, 2022 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2022
11:00AM-3:00PM PT
Instructor: Kathleen Thompson
Location: Room 208
All levels of art experience are welcome for a workshop of mixed media art making. Explore and experiment in a supportive environment using various media – acrylic paint, pastel, markers, pencil, crayon – on wood panels and canvas boards. The limitless possibilities of mixed media can help create a visual experience of self-expression and the development of one’s own voice, history, passion, and vision. Some ideas that may inform our mixed media creations include: metaphor, autobiography, symbol, ritual objects, process, flow.
We will also experiment with image transfer from black and white Xeroxes and a variety of ways to apply the paint: brushes, rollers, palette knives, and indirect paint transfer from paper.
All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring any supplies you have on hand and would enjoy working with, along with a few Xerox copies (high contrast, up to 12”, on thin basic copier paper). Beginners welcome!
Note: Please bring snacks or a bag lunch.
Sliding Scale: $20/$40/$75/$125/$150

Kathleen Thompson
Instructor
Kathleen Thompson is a Sebastopol based abstract painter. Using fluid acrylic and mixed media, her work is “evidence of a journey.” Through exploration, experimentation and attention to the present, meanings occur. What is revealed in the process of working, becomes a metaphor for the passage of time, shifting internal states, changing perspective, retrieval and integration.
