Handbuilding; Fundamentals of the Functional | Mondays Sept Oct 31 – Dec 19

During this engaging and structured course, students will learn a variety of pottery techniques including pinch pots, coiling, slab building, surface design, and glazing through demonstrations and individual projects. Students will also learn studio etiquette, materials handling and clean up. This is the perfect class for those new to clay, beginners, and those who have had some clay experience (intermediate). Participants will finish with a better understanding and appreciation for the ceramic medium and its processes as well as a collection of their very own ceramic ‘masterpieces’.
By taking this class, participants will become familiar with the ins and outs of our wonderful ceramics studio and if they so choose, become studio members. With your 8 week class registration, students receive the opportunity to purchase a studio pass for ½ off during the duration of their class. Our studio pass+ membership allows students access to our open studio hours to make work outside of class time. Click here to join as a studio member
Sonoma Ceramics is excited to roll out new sliding scale, accessible pricing for our classes. With this new payment option, materials for the course are now included in the price of the class.
Sliding Scale: $65/$175/$275/$400/$550
Course price includes a single 25 lb. bag of clay, and glazing and firing for said clay. Additional bags of clay can be purchased through the studio and/or office.

Deborah Donahower
Instructor
Deborah Donahower received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Studio Art, with an emphasis in Ceramics, Printmaking and Pastels. She has been teaching art to adults and children for 40 years and it is her passion to empower budding artists with the basic foundation skills in art and help them bloom into their own creativity and personal style. Deborah’s teaching style is structured and starts with building a strong foundation around the fundamentals of clay.
