Intro to Mold Making and Slip Casting with Kala Stein

November 5, 2022 @ 10:00 am November 6, 2022 @ 4:00 pm

10:00AM-4:00PM PT *includes a break for lunch*

Free Pre-Class Consultation / Introduction with Kala on Zoom

Instructor: Kala Stein

Location: in front of the Glaze Barn

In this workshop, students will learn how to make a 1-part and 2-part plaster mold for slip casting. Lectures will cover the etiquette of working with plaster in a community studio, proper plaster mixing, how to “read” undercuts and determine what is an appropriate model for a plaster mold. Participants will learn how make a 2 part mold from found objects or handmade clay objects, however, every object will not be appropriate to make a 2-part mold from, so we are offering a Pre-Class Consultation / Introduction with Kala on zoom to learn more about the workshop and to help determine what to make a mold of and if you’d like to participate.

Over the course of the weekend, students should expect to make a multi-part mold and walk away with a better understanding about mold making and slip casting. If you already have experience making a 2-part mold, you are welcome to attend the workshop to make a multi-part mold.

Kala will provide a comprehensive demo in her studio to show a variety of applications for molds and casting. No mold making experience is necessary to attend this workshop.
