Photopolymer Platemaking Two-Day Workshop

January 21 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

Instructor: Jami Taback

Location: Room 208 Printmaking Studio

Sessions: 2

Date: Saturday & Sunday, January 21-22, 2023

Join Jami Taback in this exciting exploration of photopolymer plates, a safer alternative high-quality printmaking process that uses sunlight and water instead of toxic chemicals. Learn printmaking techniques that cover inking, color and tools used for embellishing the plate.

Tap into the mysteries of your creative potential. You will have the opportunity to create several prints in brilliant colorful expressions. Plates work for intaglio printmaking and are extremely durable and versatile. Some printmaking experience is helpful but not essential. Participants may bring their own paper. Asian papers work beautifully and so does fabric, like silks and cottons with a tight weave. Fiber artists enjoy this process when creating wearable art.

Class fee includes inks, paper, and one 4” x 5” polymer plate. Additional plates (4” x 5” and 8” x 10” will be available to purchase from the instructor). Notes: Bring a bag lunch as there will be a 30 minute break each day. Participants can bring their own apron and gloves or use those in the studio.

Day One: Learn how to put your image onto a transparency and transfer it to the polymer plate. Participants will print proofs.

Day Two: Discussion about paper. Explore different inking methods. Continue printing – each participant will create a small edition of prints.

Upon registration you will receive more detailed instructions from Jami Taback. Questions about the class? Email Jami at jamitaback@gmail.com.
