About the class

Curious about creating a Trashion Fashion runway outfit or an upcycled Trashion Barbie and don’t know where to start? We offer free open design studios where you can find your Trashion community, work and collaborate as well as demonstrations with hands on advice from past Trashion designers. Come and have access to space, tools, supplies and recycled materials or BYOT (Bring your own Trash!).

Trashion Design Studio #3 is all about The Power of Repetition. Repetition in design involves creating a sense of cohesion and unity. By repeating certain visual elements, such as shapes, colors, patterns or materials. You can create a consistent visual language that ties your entire composition together, creating harmony and a pleasing effect to the audience. As an upcycle jewelry artist, five time Trashion participant, and the 2021 & 2022 2nd place winner – Amanda’s specialty is doing just that. She creates intricate and detailed outfits out of bottle caps, gift cards, metal tins, electrical wire, maps, buttons, soda tabs and used coffee bags.

Come to one open studio or come to all three!
Limited Space – RSVPing is recommended.
Trashion Open Studios are supported by a grant provided by Creative Sonoma

Amanda Ahlborn

Monitor / Artist

Amanda Ahlborn is an upcycle jewelry designer and owner of AA Designs . She is also a five time participant of the Trashion Fashion Runway and the 2021 and 2022 second place winner.

Amanda shares; “Bottle caps, gift cards, metal tins, electrical wire, maps, buttons and used coffee bags. I love the challenge of making new things with unconventional materials. Over the years I have evolved a unique style incorporating many influences from my past. Born into a family of artists I gained a great appreciation for things that are handmade and truly one of a kind. I remember using seed beads to make jewelry that matched my outfits since store bought pieces lacked the feel I was looking for. I have found that somewhere between the scrap heap and the show room you can find the strange place where creativity and recycled materials are transformed into breath taking pieces of wearable art.”
