That 70th Show Gallery Exhibit

January 27 @ 5:00 pm April 30 @ 7:30 pm

The Gallery Exhibit runs January 27th through April 30th.
Located in the Causeway Gallery, upstairs in the hallway.
Free / Donations accepted.

Join us for a gallery reception for a true community celebration. Libations, nibbles, and sweets provided.  There will be a brief open mic of stories and connections at 6:00 PM. Participate in the Photo Booth and Interactive Wall to share your past stories or visions  on the “Future of the Sonoma Community Center” section. Read about our history here.

Curated by local artist Mike Acker in honor of the Center’s 70th anniversary, the show features images and historical materials donated by the Sonoma Valley Historical Society, the Sonoma Index-Tribune, and others. The materials on display offer a fun look at some of the most interesting stories from the Center’s history – including how the building was sold to Dr. Carroll Andrews for $20,000 in 1952, how it got its historic landmark designation in the 1980s, and how a win for the Community Center became a film location for the move, Scream.

The exhibit will also feature an interactive Community wall. Post copies of your pictures, press clippings, posters or write your stories while visiting the exhibition. (Disclaimer: The Sonoma Community Center is not responsible for any lost or missing original items- please bring a copy)  In keeping with the Center’s founding principle and ongoing commitment to be a resource for the people and by the people, all visitors are encouraged to add their own stories to the larger narrative of the Community Center. After all, the story of the Center is the story of Sonoma.

In summer 2022, we launched a new brand to take us into the next 70 years. Check out the celebratory community service projects and how to participate here.
