About the class

What is poetry? Who is a poet? Lets play with words!

Shakespeare was just trying to make a living. Emily Dickinson was pulling thoughts out of her head as she was pulling weeds in her garden. Get the thoughts and stories and perceptions rattling around in your head down on paper. It doesn’t have to be sonnets or formal verse; this is not an academic class. The only requirement is putting your magic-wand-pen to paper. Then, let’s spout those writings at an open mic at the Community Center.

About the instructor

Isabell VanMerlin

Instructor / Poet

Isabell VanMerlin has been writing primarily poetry for more than 15 years. She is
published and has self-published – she can help you self publish – and would like
to create an anthology or two for the Community Center. Isabell also ran an open
for ten years and loves hearing other people’s words and stories. Please bring
anything you have written to class. We will share our writings in class and spend
some time writing from prompts. Wednesday evenings from 6-8, and on the third
Wednesday of the month, the class will morph into an open mic at 7 p.m., with
other writers joining us at the mic!
