“INFLUENCES & ORIGINS” LAUNCHES A NEW YEAR OF EXHIBITIONS IN GALLERY 212
The Sonoma Community Center’s Gallery 212 will kick-off the new decade with a special exhibit featuring the art of Instructors scheduled to teach during the winter class programming. “INFLUENCES & ORIGINS: An Instructor Showcase” will open to the public on Friday, January 10th, 2020 at 5:30pm with an opening reception and will continue to run through February 1st. “The Center has a history of bringing in highly skilled artists as Instructors,” noted Creative Programs Manager, Eric Jackson. “And it’s a thrill to showcase their expertise and creativity all in one Gallery.”
Attendees of the January 10th Opening Reception will also have the opportunity to meet the Instructors and also hear each artist briefly discuss their art during the Artist Talk that will begin promptly at 6:00pm.
The group exhibit will spotlight a wide variety of artistic disciplines from some of the Center’s familiar favorites and a few new faces. Confirmed artists include Jane Lybecker showcasing her detailed needle felting and Lisa Thorpe exhibiting whimsical mixed media pieces. Other 2-dimensional pieces include watercolor paintings from Robert Benson, pastels made by Deborah Donahower, and compelling abstract paintings by Colleen Gianatiempo. Monoprinting skill will be shown by Heather Wilcoxon and Brett Grunig returns with his soft ground etching.
Ceramic art ranging from fired raku boxes to exquisite dimensional tiles will be provided by ceramicists Daniel Oliver, Julia Feld, Lynn Wood, and former resident artist, Claire Thibodeau.
“If a piece speaks to you, you can enroll in a class to learn how to make something similar from that very artist.” Jackson adds. “It’s the perfect time to try something new.” The Center’s winter class programming can be found online at www.sonomacommunitycenter.org or from the Main Office during regular business hours at 276 East Napa Street, in Sonoma, (707) 938-4626 x1.
