What is fingerstyle guitar?

  • Fingerstyle guitar is the technique of playing the guitar by plucking the strings directly with the fingertips, fingernails, or picks attached to fingers, as opposed to flatpicking (plucking individual notes with a single plectrum, commonly called a “pick”)

Areas of focus will include:

  • Brief overview of fingerstyle guitar history
  • Examples of technique in popular music by artists such as The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd & more
  • Proper picking technique
  • Application of fingerstyle

This class is designed for students who have a basic knowledge and grasp on some basic 1st position chords e.g.:  C, G, A, E, D, A-, E-

Sean Carscadden is a guitar player/singer/producer and instructor with 18 years of teaching experience. A native to Sonoma, Carscadden is one the preeminent guitar and ukulele instructors in the area. Known for cultivating a friendly, fun and productive learning environment, Carscadden brings an enthusiastic and highly adaptable teaching style to the table.
