Students will learn how to make a small knotless netted basket. Beginning at the bottom, how to start, increase stitches and how to end the rim.
Knotless netting is a common net bag making technique. Class will begin with a powerpoint presentation to illustrate the history and variety of these bags. The instructor is bilingual and spent a year researching net bags in Guatemala with funding from a Fulbright grant.

Kathy Rousso’s fiber art reflects her time in southeast Alaska and Central America. Her baskets combine traditional Northwest Coast basketry twined and Guatemalan net bag knotless netted techniques. She learned how to make Guatemalan net bags while conducting research on agave fiber textiles with a Fulbright grant, in conjunction with the Mueso Ixchel del Traje Indigena in Guatemala City. Additional knowledge of net bags is from subsequent research, from southern Mexico to northern Colombia.
