This class introduces the art of traditional Japanese woodblock printing, Mokuhanga, which allows you to print luminous colors without the use of solvents or a printing press. Create multicolour prints while learning how to transfer images, carve woodbocks and print by hand with a traditional Japanese “baren.” All levels are welcome!

Tomoko Murakami is a multi-disciplinary artist who explores the medium of printmaking as a multi-dimensional art form, bringing attention to new possibilities in the mixed media art world. She received her MFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MA in Transformative Arts from John F. Kennedy University. She is a recipient of the 1992 Kala Art Institute Fellowship and the 2008 Susan Boulet Fellowship Award. Currently, she teaches at Santa Rosa Junior College and Kala Art Institute.
