Colorful Bouquets Surprised Fifty Sonoma Mothers, May 8, 2020
Sonoma Community Center, La Luz, Vintage House and Safeway Partner, Giving Mother’s Day Cheer
Creativity and kindness were the Mother’s Day theme in Sonoma last week. Ceramic artists from Sonoma Community Center’s Ceramics Studio donated over fifty handmade ceramic vases, which were filled with colorful flowers donated by Safeway and arranged by volunteers at The Center. Both Vintage House and La Luz distributed the bouquets to mothers in need as part of their food distribution last Friday.
“In this trying time, it’s important to sustain and support the community through all types of creative, thoughtful gestures — big or small,” said Kala Stein, Director of Ceramics & Arts at Sonoma Community Center, who led the effort. “Spreading love and kindness to others can make a big impact, especially now, and enrich the lives of both supporters and recipients.
Angie Sanchez, La Luz Community Engagement Programs Manager, said, “The mothers were so surprised by this gift that it brought out many emotions… they smiled, cried and were deeply appreciative of this thoughtful gesture.”
Long-time supporter of Sonoma Community Center’s fundraisers — from Chili Bowl Express to MUSE Gala — Safeway store manager, Josh Gruenhagen, donated a huge array of flowers for the Mother’s Day Bouquets, demonstrating how businesses and non-profits can work together to make a difference for our community in Sonoma Valley.
Sonoma Community Center has helped launch additional collaborations, like the new “HeART of Sonoma,” a coalition of local organizations, working together to lift spirits through arts-making and free activities during Shelter in Place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
