Have fun and develop a comprehensive set of skills in this wonderful medium. Learn techniques in soft pastels, including underpainting, foundation washes, color theory and mixing, as well as composition and perspective. Classes will cover still life, landscapes, portraits and abstract subject matter. Pastels are both forgiving and relaxing. Each student will receive a drawing board and basic portfolio for his/her work.
$10 materials fee payable to instructor at start of class.

Deborah Donahower received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Studio Art, with an emphasis in Ceramics, Printmaking and pastels. She has been teaching art to Adults & Children for 35 years and it is her passion to empower budding artists with the basic foundation skills in Art, and help them bloom into their own creativity & personal style. She has taught for the Hudson River Museum, in Yonkers, NY; the Branson School in Marin and was the owner/director of Pottery Design Center in L.A. and Wisteria Studio in Marin. She has taught Ceramics, Mosaics & Pastels for the past 8 years through Napa Valley College Community Education Department, and at various elementary elementary schools in the valley. She has won several Best of Show awards and Blue Ribbons, at the Napa County Fair; and had a Pastel Painting accepted at the National Juried Show at the Sonoma Arts Guild in 2017.
