OCT 20 – DEC 8, 2020
Instructor: Benjamin Betourne
*You must have a wheel to use if you’d like to participate in this class. If you do not have a wheel, you can still watch the class but at this time we are not renting wheels and our studios remain temporarily closed.
In this virtual class, Ben will help you develop and improve your throwing skills while exploring a range of forms through multiple class projects in this all-level throwing class. The instructor guides you through the basic steps of throwing, shaping, and trimming of pottery on the wheel. This class is a great opportunity for students to hone basic techniques of throwing on the wheel and expand skills in all aspects of pottery. Surface decoration techniques will be explored.
Ben will demonstrate for approximately 1/2 hour at the beginning of class, after which there will be time reserved for additional Q&A, demos, etc. Students must have their own wheels at home in order to take this class.
All students will receive the Zoom class recordings to watch at their convenience through December 20 on Youtube.
Participants must pre-register for the workshop to get the Zoom link & tool list. Once you register, the links will be in your confirmation email.
Optional $30 materials fee due at registration covers your first bag of clay, firing, and glazes if using the Sonoma Ceramics studios for firing and glazing. Additional clay may be purchased as necessary. If you do purchase clay, we are open for sales Monday-Saturday, 9AM-1PM.
Ben has been working in clay for over 15 years and is truly passionate about throwing pots. He specializes in large scale multi-part forms for indoor and outdoor use. His signature, carved surfaces distinguish his work with patterns referencing the energy he puts into throwing and finishing his impressive pots.
