NOV 15, 2018
Instructor: Turiya Gross
In this workshop students will learn a variety of patterns and painting techniques in the majolica tradition (overglaze painting). This Folk Turkish style tradition using two different slips as the palette was passed onto her. Come to the artist talk to hear Turiya’s story preceding the class (free & open to the public) at 11am.
No experience is necessary, open to painters and clay people!
Three brush thicknesses will be used in this workshop and Turiya recommends a short brush, a longer thin brush and a fat bulb shaped brush available through China Clay Art: http://chinaclayart.com/product-tag/handmade-brush/
These brushes are beautiful and make it easy to drag and flick the stroke. We will have some on-site to practice with so your purchase is optional.
Small- camel hair ($25)
Medium- #1 or #7 or #10
Large- bamboo wild boar ($40)

Turiya’s training in ceramics began and developed in the rolling hills of Western New York at a craft community – The Rochester Folk Art Guild. She is currently traveling between the US and Mexico, having just completed a residency at Pocoapoco, Oaxaca and returning to Sonoma Ceramics for a second month as the Chili Bowl Resident Artist. Her work is largely inspired and informed by Turkish brushwork decoration & folk traditions in stoneware.
