Pop up class! July Garden – Seasonal Sketching & Watercolor Workshop
July 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Summer is the time of year for enjoying gardens – be they at the park, in your yard, or anywhere you find them. Join Alina Nuebel, painter and naturalist, for this workshop where we “draw” inspiration from the gardens at the Sonoma Community Center! We will explore the grounds and gardens of the Sonoma Community Center, and learn sketching and watercolor skills that can help us celebrate the beauty of the Summer season.
This class will cover:
– tips for drawing plants from life
– techniques for quickly sketching flowers in watercolor, including color theory
– free time to paint
– time to receive individualized feedback and guidance from the instructor
– Materials will be provided for student use during the workshop, so all you have to do is bring yourself!

Alina Nuebel (she/they)
Instructor / Artist
Alina Nuebel is a painter, environmental muralist, and naturalist. Educated as an ecologist, Nuebel’s artwork reflects upon seasonality, phenology, and ecology of local organisms. When you register for a class, you’ll be offered three price tiers. The middle tier comes closest to what our registration fees used to be, and covers about 50% of the full cost of your participation in the class – with the other 50% covered by community donations. The first tier creates accessibility for people with limited income, while the third tier covers the full cost of participation – so that we can use community donations to support other people’s registration costs. When you choose to register at the third tier, you directly help support the Center’s efforts to remove financial barriers for others.
