About the class

This class runs with combined experience levels. Please select the level that best corresponds to your experience.

Have you always wanted to learn how to crochet? Or perhaps you know the basics but need guidance or want to learn new stitches? Come to the Fiber Arts Studio and spend six Tuesday evenings learning and practicing crochet. Beginners will learn how to hold the hook and maintain even tension as they learn chain stitch, single crochet stitch and double crochet stitch. Students who already have some experience are invited to start or continue a project of their choice. All materials are provided for newbies; others can bring their own yarn or use yarn from the studio.

When you register for a class, you’ll be offered three price tiers. The middle tier comes closest to what our registration fees used to be, and covers about 50% of the full cost of your participation in the class – with the other 50% covered by community donations. The first tier creates accessibility for people with limited income, while the third tier covers the full cost of participation – so that we can use community donations to support other people’s registration costs. When you choose to register at the third tier, you directly help support the Center’s efforts to remove financial barriers for others.

The Sonoma Community Center (the Center) strives to create an inclusive, safe community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The Center is committed to creating such an environment because it brings out the fullest potential in each of us, which, in turn, contributes directly to creating a community of belonging. In order to ensure a positive, safe, and welcoming experience for everyone, all program participants are asked to abide by the following policies, community agreements, and restorative safety protocol.

About the instructor

Therese Keating

Instructor / Artist

I have been crocheting most of my life.  My mother taught me, as well as many other things, needlepoint, sewing, quilting, cooking, preserving, etc.  I have always favored crochet.
I grew up in Buffalo NY, went to college in Atlanta, started working in the fashion industry in NYC which brought me to LA as the western states sales manager for Giorgio Armani menswear.  40+ years living in LA, a son and a transition (after 20 years) from fashion to wine.  I moved to Sonoma 5 years ago (great decision!) and work in guest relations at Opus One in Napa.  I’ve become a grandma and play with clay a lot (started that 10 years ago) at the Sonoma Community Center.  I continue my sewing, needlepoint and, of course, crocheting all through my life.
