My Meaningful Retirement

August 11, 2023 @ 2:00 pm 4:00 pm

Adding meaning to your retirement has two major benefits:

1. Improves your psychological well-being, including self-acceptance, the establishment of quality ties to others, a sense of autonomy in thought and action, a sense of purpose in life and continued growth and development as a person.

2. Improves your physical well-being. Research has shown that people who have high levels of purpose in life spend fewer nights in hospitals, have lower odds of developing diabetes, and over two times lower risk of dying from heart conditions than do others.

This workshop leads you through the process to define a Project that will help turn your normal retirement into a meaningful retirement. The criteria for a Project that will bring meaning to your retirement:

– Aligns with your personal agenda

– Provides meaning and passion

– Leverages your natural talents

– Meets your economic needs

Join Don Lundgren as he shares with you what ‘meaningful’ actually means, gives some keys to a purposeful retirement, and shows step-by-step how he developed his individualized Project that gives his own retirement meaning.

Note: Upon registration you will receive instructions for the online reading that will prepare you for the workshop. Experience with navigating a website is necessary.

When you register for a class, you’ll be offered three price tiers. The middle tier comes closest to what our registration fees used to be, and covers about 50% of the full cost of your participation in the class – with the other 50% covered by community donations. The first tier creates accessibility for people with limited income, while the third tier covers the full cost of participation – so that we can use community donations to support other people’s registration costs. When you choose to register at the third tier, you directly help support the Center’s efforts to remove financial barriers for others.

The Sonoma Community Center (the Center) strives to create an inclusive, safe community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The Center is committed to creating such an environment because it brings out the fullest potential in each of us, which, in turn, contributes directly to creating a community of belonging. In order to ensure a positive, safe, and welcoming experience for everyone, all program participants are asked to abide by the following policies, community agreements, and restorative safety protocol.
