My paintings are like “reverse illustration.”
I seek a compelling image first, 
and then, as I work, a story may take shape in my head. A caption or words may find their way into the painting.
The original image is often twisted into something quite different, not just a “pretty picture” but a statement,
something that aims to be more critical, entertaining, significant, or surprising.

These paintings are best seen patiently and in person.
