On Thursday, August 24th at the Sonoma Community Center, Braulio Barrera y Somos el Son will perform an energetic Salsa/Cha Cha dance concert under the stars. The June concert featuring Cabanijazz Project was such a success that the Center has again partnered with local nonprofit Music in Place to bring the community together to celebrate the end of the summer season.
Peruvian born vocalist and percussionist Braulio Barrera began performing as a professional musician at the age of 19. In 2000, he began touring the United States with various artists ultimately settling down in San Francisco. A full-time musician, Barrera is a founding member of the 2014 Grammy Award Winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra and teaches children’s music classes with the San Francisco Symphony.
Barrera’s band, Somos el Son, has been performing in the Bay Area Latin music scene for the past decade. They perform dance-inducing salsa classics and originals. Braulio Barrera y Somos el Son’s concert on August 24th will be the perfect end to summer and a chance for the community to gather for a night of food, music, and celebration.
This concert is produced in partnership with Music in Place whose mission is to bring culturally relevant performances to Bay area neighborhood venues so that everyone can access the power of music. Creating opportunities for musical performances to occur in nontraditional venues expands access to the musical arts. The concert is a fundraiser for the Sonoma Community Center.
