Sonoma Valley 6th Annual Earth Day Photo Contest
Sonoma, California. The City of Sonoma, in partnership with the Sonoma Community Center, is thrilled to announce the 6th Annual Earth Day Photo Contest, inviting photographers of all ages to capture the beauty, movement, and meaning of water in Sonoma Valley.
The 2026 theme, “The Power of Water,” encourages participants to explore how water shapes our lives and landscapes — from misty morning vineyards and rushing creeks to reflective ponds, dramatic winter storms, and quiet coastal tides. Water sustains us, restores us, moves us, and connects us. Now it’s your turn to show us how.
This annual collaboration reflects a shared commitment to celebrating Sonoma Valley’s natural beauty, uplifting local artists, and promoting sustainable practices that protect our most precious resources. “The photo contest is a way for local artists of all ages to capture the power and beauty of our Valley and highlight the intersection of art and nature in a meaningful way,” said Vanessa Glamore Rognlien, Executive Director of the Sonoma Community Center. “By encouraging people to look closer at the world around them, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for our environment and our role in protecting it.”
Contest Timeline
All submitted photos will be featured in Sonoma’s City Council Chambers as part of the Rotating Chamber Art Program — offering participants the opportunity to have their work displayed in a public exhibition.
How to Enter
Submit one original photo taken within Sonoma Valley in one of the following age categories:
Entries must be submitted online at sonomacity.org/earth-day-photo-contest by April 3, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

All images are subject to approval. No nudity, political statements, or overly graphic/explicit content will be accepted. This is an all-ages photography contest.
Photos must be taken in Sonoma Valley. For this contest, “Sonoma Valley” is defined as:
Photos may also be featured in future Earth Day and Earth Action Week promotions.
Prizes & Recognition
Winners in each category will receive a Sonoma County Regional Parks Membership Voucher or a local business gift certificate. Winners will also be recognized during the Earth Day Celebration on April 25, 2026, held at the Sonoma Community Center.
“Water plays a fundamental role in shaping the landscapes that make Sonoma Valley so special,” said Sonoma Mayor Ron Wellander. “From our creeks and wetlands to the morning fog that settles over the vineyards, water is part of the rhythm of life here. I hope this year’s theme encourages people to slow down, look closely at the natural beauty around them, and capture the moments that make Sonoma Valley unique.”
