About the class

Join Resident Artist, and world builder, Christian Moses with a deep dive into taking drawn works and bringing them to life in the 3D realm. Under the instruction of Christian Moses students will be guided in the creation of handbuilt sculptural pieces from a reference sketch. Technical components of the referential sculpture process will be covered in depth; resizing images, creating cardboard guides, coil building techniques, and more. If you are a wheel thrower, you can still take this course! These methodologies are applicable across multiple modalities in the studio.

About the instructor

Christian Moses

Resident Ceramics Artist

Christian Moses is a Brooklyn native artist working primarily in clay. He uses memory as a starting point to identify his understanding of the city which is constantly changing. He is interested in the idea of the souvenir cup, and the icons that build a city’s character. He uses clay to create lasting impressions of the city he remembers, in the form of functional pieces as well as sculptural icons that nod to iconic underground New York historical movements, specifically highlighting styles of dress—gold jewelry, Pelle Pelle jackets, BB Simon belts and more. Christian uses cartoon imagery, and humor as an entry point to more pressing issues of gentrification and discrimination.
