About the class

Explore a new way to create colorful monotype prints in this intriguing one-day experimental workshop! Join Bay Area printmaker, Cindy Ostroff, as she will show you how to cut paper stencils directly from newsprint and uniquely layer their shapes onto rice paper using colorful mixed pigments. Students will delve into how line, shape, form, color, texture, transparency values and space work together in harmony to create strong compositions in printmaking. Cindy will also demonstrate how to print and layer onto photographic imagery to create visually stunning mixed media prints. Students will be able to explore a new direction in modern printmaking by color mixing inks using Cobra brand water-based oil paints. Each guest will be able to create several prints which can be taken home at the end of the full day session. Supply fee covers inks, printing papers, newsprint for stencils and plexiglass plates. Feel free to bring brushes, tools for marks and textures, source materials etc.

No prior printmaking experience is required. All levels beginner through intermediate are welcome!
A 30 minute lunch break will be provided. Please bring a bagged lunch.

About the instructor

Cindy Ostroff

Instructor / Artist

I am passionate about printmaking. It is the creative tension in printmaking that draws me in
and motivates me to pursue my artistic path. I constantly experiment with both established
techniques while also exploring a wide range of newer processes. For me, inspiration can arise
in an instant, often provoked by light, shadow, texture, or color. I find that this creative tension
is what keeps me open to the greatest surprise and artistic potential in my work.
