Lunar New Year Community Day

Two Person Standing Near Assorted-color Paper Lanterns

“2024 is the Year of the Dragon. It is a time to usher out the old year and bring forth the luck and prosperity of the new one. The Chinese New Year is a right time to bring all the community together – to celebrate our diversity, honor the past and shape the future.”

Jack Ding
Sonoma City Council Member

The Sonoma Community Center will host our first inaugural Lunar New Year cultural event to celebrate and highlight the upcoming Year of the Dragon!

Also known around the world as Chinese New Year, beginning on February 10, 2024 – the Center’s festivities will lead with a variety of creative programming. The Center will host a number of artistic workshops, present legacy educational programming, and culminate with an exclusive public performance from the Redwood Empire Chinese Association (RECA) on March 2nd.

Free to all, the Lunar New Year community day on Saturday March 2nd will begin with a traditional Chinese Calligraphy demonstration by Sonoma Valley Council Member Jack Ding, including engaging performances by RECA’s own musical performers, and a live poetry reading by Ella Wen, our Sonoma County Youth Poet Laureate.

Imagine captivating Chinese Lion and Dragon dancers moving through the halls of the historic Sonoma Community Center coupled with music, poetry, dancing, art and delicious refreshments.

Join us for this very special joyous event. We look forward to seeing you there with your entire family of all ages and generations!
