About the class

A progressive exploration of 8 unique color experiences that lead to a grasp of the key concepts to making color through mixing pigments. Any artist working with color can start with their own medium and emerge from this course with an elevated understanding of making colors. Throughout this course, the instructor will demonstrate color mixing with oils, the original color mixing medium. Participants are invited to begin the course with their native color mediums and to progress to oils. The Materials List contains more information regarding pigment colors and the other materials needed for this course.

In each class, students will study and practice the language of color through exercises of perception, science, culture, comparison, experimentation, and making colors. Open to all skill levels, except those who do not have any colored art medium experience. Registration is limited to only 8 participants.

A second version of this course is planned to be offered in the evenings next spring, Thursdays, March 13 to May 1, 2025, 5:30 – 8:30 pm.
