About the class

Learn how to create newsprint slip transfers. Students will create their transfers by either freehand drawing their image or working with a lightboard to trace an image of their choice from Amanda’s source image library (FYI, it is mostly plants) After demonstrations and tips on how to slip trail and transfer the image, students will transfer their new masterpieces onto the clay surface and leave with either a set of 4 coasters or one larger trivet/hotplate piece.

About the instructor

Amanda Bury

Instructor / Artist

Amanda grew up in Washington state. She has always found comfort in the natural world around her. Amanda’s functional ware pays homage to our food origins and the marvelously complex and deeply flawed systems that move food from the ground to our tables every day. She remains influenced by memories of her grandmother’s garden and her time working on farms during college. Her practice is nourished by time spent tending her own food gardens, and by supporting her local farmers’ market.

Amanda received a Bachelor of Art in Studio Art and a Bachelor of Art in Anthropology from Central Washington University. She then went on to pursue Post-Baccalaureate study in Ceramics at the University of Montana. Amanda has spent time as an artist in residence at well-known arts organizations across the country including The Morean Center for Clay in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and Belger Crane Yard Studios in Kansas City, Missouri. Amanda recently relocated to the Northern California Region and served as Administrative Coordinator at Cobb Mountain Arts and Ecology Project for a year. Amanda regularly shows in invitational and national juried exhibitions and her work is held in both public and private collections worldwide.
