About the class
Join us for enrichment activities that will celebrate the big, diverse world that we live in!
Each month the SCC Afterschool Enrichment program will offer a clay and movement curriculum that will connect students to the world by investigating diverse cultural traditions and the common themes that bind us. Through working with tactile clay and exploring the world of diverse cultural movement practices, students will find new ways of joyful self- expression, learn self-regulation tools, and have a lot of fun! Each month will have a new cultural theme. Through these classes, the Community Center is helping children learn about and celebrate the large and beautiful world we live in!
Half the time will be spent learning the fundamentals of handbuilding with clay with Margaret Thomas. The other half of the program will be used to explore movement and meditation through playful games with certified youth yoga and movement teacher, Elizabeth Piazza. February’s classes will explore themes surrounding Lunar New Year and Spring Equinox. Children will create with clay and learn about other cultures and types of movement. The movement class will be structured, yet loads of fun! Children will express themselves and learn how to connect with their bodies and with the environment around them.
This after-school program includes 1 clay class and 1 movement class each Thursday.
Drop off at 3:30 and pick up at 5:30. The Center is working on a consistent place for drop off and pick up. Until then, you will be notified where to drop off and pick up your child each week.
The priority of the Sonoma Community Center is the physical and emotional safety of its members, staff, and volunteers. Sonoma Community Center maintains a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse. Sonoma Community Center implements policies and procedures for members, employees, volunteers, or any victims of sexual abuse or misconduct to report any suspicion or allegation of abuse. In addition, the Sonoma Community Center does annual safety assessments and provides regular emergency procedure training for all staff. The Sonoma Community Center has also engaged local partners, such as the Sonoma Police Department. Any violation of this policy would result in
disciplinary action up to and including termination.

When you register for a class, you’ll be offered three price tiers. The middle tier comes closest to what our registration fees used to be, and covers about 50% of the full cost of your participation in the class – with the other 50% covered by community donations. The first tier creates accessibility for people with limited income, while the third tier covers the full cost of participation – so that we can use community donations to support other people’s registration costs. When you choose to register at the third tier, you directly help support the Center’s efforts to remove financial barriers for others.
