LA’s Kiry Shabazz will Headline Valley Laughs
Cody Smit/Smit Show Comedy brings the laughs back to the Center
Sonoma, California. Sonoma Community Center, in partnership with Smit Show Comedy, brings back Valley Laughs, a night of stand-up comedy, to Andrews Hall. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7, with Cody Smit as host, featuring the Bay Area’s Sean McKenzie, and headliner Kiry Shabazz of Los Angeles. Tickets are $25, and proceeds benefit the Center.
Bay Area comic Cody “Smit” runs one of the North Bay’s top-rated stand-up comedy series. He brings high-quality, tightly run comedy nights to the area, and Sonoma Community Center is pleased to participate as one of Smit Show Comedy’s regular venues.
“Valley Laughs has been a popular addition to events at the Center,” said Cat Smith, Director of Marketing at SCC. “Here’s a fun fact: Cody is my cousin, so this is really a Smit & Smith Production!”
Headliner Kiry Shabazz has roots in the Midwest and began his career in Northern California. Now an acclaimed comedian, he is based in Los Angeles and is known for winning the StandUp NBC Competition in 2017 and making his late-night debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Shabazz is a crowd favorite because of his relatable and engaging comedy style.
Featured comic, Sean McKenzie, brags that he tells smart jokes with a “big, dumb smile” on his face. He is an emerging comic performing around Northern California, but will also break into comedy at dive bars, bowling alleys, and during instrumental breaks of long karaoke songs.
“Our comedy nights are really popular,” Smith continued. “They have become a local favorite over the past three years, drawing enthusiastic repeat audiences from throughout the region.”
The founder of Smit Show Comedy, Cody Smit, is a regular at the world-famous San Francisco Punch Line. Smit’s signature self-deprecating humor and skillful crowd work are a bridge to connecting with audiences.
Valley Laughs is a 21+ performance with a showtime of 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7 in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa St. Doors open to the “Laugh Lounge” at 6:30 p.m. for ticket holders to purchase adult beverages.
