One last overnight at the “Scream House”

A fan experience offers a final opportunity to stay at this iconic location.

Sonoma, California. Wes Craven’s SCREAM (1996) returns to the screen in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center on Thursday, October 30, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the film are $20 and should be purchased in advance as they are expected to sell out ahead of the event.

Fans can take their experience even further with special upgrade options, including two exclusive tours, one with the chance to spend Halloween Eve at the legendary Spring Hill Estate Mansion. This is an exceptionally rare opportunity, and possibly the last.

Spring Hill Estate served as the backdrop for the unforgettable final forty-two minutes of the horror classic. Portraying the home of Stu Macher (played by Matthew Lillard), it is also known to fans as 261 Turner Lane in Woodsboro. The estate stands today much as it did in the ’90s, a true time capsule of the film’s chilling finale.

While many of Sonoma County’s SCREAM locations can be visited or at least viewed from the street, the “Macher House” is an exception. Privately owned and situated on a sprawling estate, it is not accessible to the public. This makes any opportunity to tour the home exceedingly rare, with an overnight stay even rarer. As of now, the October 30 event with the Sonoma Community Center marks the final chance for fans to experience this iconic location, as the owners have no plans to host future overnights.

“It’s weird to fangirl on a house,” said Cat Smith, organizer of the event for the Center, who is also a fan. “I’ve been out there, and it really is like stepping into the movie. It’s especially eerie at night. Being so close to the coast, the fog rolls in and creates a whole other level of spooky.”

Called the “Overnight at Stu’s” Experience, this special package includes a pre-show reception in the Center’s Printmaking Studio, the room used for the high school classroom in SCREAM. Purchasers will receive a ticket to the movie with front row reserved seats and complimentary concessions, as well as limited edition swag. Immediately following the film, Smith will escort these guests by private car service, provided by Bay Area Tours, to the house, which is actually located in Tomales Bay.

Franco Caramelino organizes tours for Spring Hill Estate and will co-host the overnight. He will lead the group on a nighttime tour of the house, sharing the history of the property and behind-the-scenes stories. The guests will then have full access to take pictures in their favorite spots and recreate scenes from the movie. Sequels are available for viewing, and for those brave enough to sleep, there are five queen-size beds in the room that served as the attic in the film. Halloween morning, the private car will return to pick up the group and take them for a “Killer Breakfast” at the historic Washoe House Restaurant before returning to the Center.

Get ready to return to Woodsboro! SCREAM (1996) hits the screen in Andrews Hall on Thursday, October 30, at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:00). Tickets are $20 in advance and expected to go fast. For die-hard fans, two immersive upgrades await: the “Afternoon at Stu’s” Experience ($350), limited to just eight guests; and the ultra-exclusive “Overnight at Stu’s” Experience ($750 through October 10, then goes up to $1,000), limited to only five guests. Proceeds support the Sonoma Community Center. Visit SonomaCommunityCenter.org or call 707-938-4626 for tickets and more information.
