Crochet for Beginners and Beyond
Learn to crochet or expand your skills in four relaxed Tuesday evening sessions. Beginners master foundational stitches; experienced crafters get project guidance.
About the Class
Have you always wanted to learn to crochet – or are you ready to build on the skills you already have?
Join us in the Fiber Arts Studio for four relaxed Tuesday evening sessions dedicated to learning and practicing crochet.
Beginners will start with the essentials: how to hold the hook comfortably, maintain even tension, and work the foundational stitches – chain, single crochet, and double crochet.
Students with prior experience are welcome to begin a new project or bring a work-in-progress for guidance and skill-building.
All materials are provided for beginners. Returning or experienced crocheters may bring their own supplies or use yarn available in the studio.
About your Instructor
Therese Keating
I have been crocheting most of my life. My mother taught me, as well as many other things, needlepoint, sewing, quilting, cooking, preserving, etc. I have always favored crochet.
I grew up in Buffalo NY, went to college in Atlanta, started working in the fashion industry in NYC which brought me to LA as the western states sales manager for Giorgio Armani menswear. 40+ years living in LA, a son and a transition (after 20 years) from fashion to wine. I moved to Sonoma several years ago (great decision!) and work in guest relations at Opus One in Napa. I’ve become a grandma and play with clay a lot (started that 10 years ago) at the Sonoma Community Center. I continue my sewing, needlepoint and, of course, crocheting all through my life.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. If you require any special considerations(medical, physical, learning) please share them with Sean Baskin, Program Associate, by emailing him at [email protected] so that he can forward them to the relevant Program Director and Instructor.
Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed.
