Monotype is known as the painterly print. For the Love of Monotype is an invitation to slow down, explore, and fall in love with one of printmaking’s most expressive and fascinating techniques.
Join Kelly in this special evening workshop series, which welcomes beginners and ongoing students. We will create unique prints that can never be exactly repeated. The art of monotype is a process that is centered around the creative marks that are made through inking, painting or drawing onto a flat plexiglass or metal surface. Each impression becomes a fleeting moment captured on paper in the wonder of the reveal. Through exercises focused on layers of ink, texture, and gesture, participants will discover the beauty of spontaneity, embracing both the marks we make and the surprises that emerge along the way.
Whether you are an experienced artist or completely new to monotype and curious to explore, this workshop offers a space for experimentation and creative connection in four paced weeks. Ongoing Intro to Printmaking students will be able to expand on their existing knowledge of monotype technique.
Leave with a collection of prints, knowledge of new techniques, and a deeper love for the poetic possibilities of monotype.
No prior printmaking experience is necessary, but is welcomed. This class requires hand dexterity to maneuver tools and studio equipment. Students must feel comfortable handling machinery.
instructor Overview
Kelly Autumn
Kelly Autumn is an Asian American visual artist and multidisciplinary printmaker based in Sonoma County. Raised in Santa Rosa and deeply rooted in the Bay Area, Kelly is a passionate arts educator with a natural curiosity for combining traditional print methods with an experimental mixed-media approach. Kelly received her BA degree from San Francisco State University and an AA degree in Studio Arts with emphasis in Printmaking from Diablo Valley College. She currently leads the Printmaking Department as a studio instructor and Program Coordinator at the Sonoma Community Center where she enjoys sharing her love of print with folks of all ages. Kelly currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Printmakers and her work has been featured in various public exhibitions throughout the Bay Area.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed. You may reach out to the program directors directly, or the Program Associate Sean Baskin at [email protected] to request a late addition.
