Join us for a free, drop-in community art experience celebrating nature’s beauty and spreading love throughout Sonoma! Drop by anytime between 1:30 and 5:30 PM to participate.
About the Class
Learn to bend vibrant yellow willow branches into beautiful hearts under the guidance of facilitators Teddy and Isa, who are passionate about botanical artistry and community connection. Some hearts will be planted around the Plaza, while others you can take home to brighten your own neighborhood. Together, we’ll spread a heartfelt message of connection across Sonoma.
About Yellow Willow
The botanical material we’ll use is Yellow Willow (Salix lutea), a stunning testament to nature’s resilience. This remarkable plant offers ecological benefits, natural beauty, and practical uses that enrich our environment. As you craft your willow hearts, you’ll appreciate not just its elegance, but the vital role it plays in our local ecosystem.
What to Bring:
- Garden gloves
- Pruning shears (if available)
Come play cupid and connect with your community through nature-inspired art! No experience necessary, all materials provided.
About your Instructor
Theodore Pender & Isa Jacoby
Theodore (Teddy) Pender is the Vice President of The Valley of the Moon Garden Club and helps to maintain the Rose Garden on the Plaza as well as other gardens in Sonoma Valley. He became interested many years ago in decorating with natural items while working for The Metropolitan Museum of Art at The Cloisters Museum in upper Manhattan. Moving to Sonoma, he realized he had a wealth of nature to supply me with interesting natural materials to work with. Teddy and Isa are looking forward to teaching you some of those skills!
Isa Jacoby is a long time Sonoma Valley local who feeds her community through her beautiful catering business. “Cooking is about Gathering – local ingredients, global flavors and who is being nourished. The season’s offerings are my inspiration for luscious food.” She is a creator, artist and every year prepares and volunteers her time and glorious food for the Trashion Fashion 5 PM show celebration. She is a force of nature and a spirited heart. Teddy and Isa are looking forward to teaching you some of those skills!

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. If you require any special considerations(medical, physical, learning) please share them with Sean Baskin, Program Associate, by emailing him at [email protected] so that he can forward them to the relevant Program Director and Instructor.
Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed. You may reach out to the program directors directly, or the Program Associate Sean Baskin at [email protected] to request a late addition.
