What is printmaking? We invite you into our print studio to experience a fun beginner’s journey through this incredible art form in five paced weeks.
Join Kelly in this unique introduction to print through the world of monotype, relief, intaglio and stencil screenprinting. This popular multi-session workshop is only taught twice per year in the spring and fall seasons. Students will try various techniques in this guided, hands-on class to create a beginning portfolio of prints. Learn a basic understanding of the four classic methods within the family of printmaking and gain access to our member’s print studio to continue working on your own projects. This class is perfect for absolute beginners or even experienced artists who may need a refresher course in printmaking.
- Monotype – Create a single print on a flat matrix using ink and a variety of marks and textures
- Relief – Carve, ink and block print using a mini speedy carve block and a linocut tool
- Intaglio – Draw, scratch and ink onto a surface to roll out a creative print using a small press
- Stencil – Pull a silkscreen and learn to transfer a flat stencil to make a colorful printed impression
No prior printmaking experience is necessary. This class requires hand dexterity to maneuver carving tools and studio equipment. Students must feel comfortable handling machinery.

About your Instructor
Kelly Autumn
Kelly Autumn is an Asian American visual artist and multidisciplinary printmaker based in Sonoma County. Raised in Santa Rosa and deeply rooted in the Bay Area, Kelly is a passionate arts educator with a natural curiosity for combining traditional print methods with an experimental mixed-media approach. Kelly received her BA degree from San Francisco State University and an AA degree in Studio Arts with emphasis in Printmaking from Diablo Valley College. She currently leads the Printmaking Department as a studio instructor and Program Coordinator at the Sonoma Community Center where she enjoys sharing her love of print with folks of all ages. Kelly currently serves on the Board of Directors of the California Society of Printmakers and her work has been featured in various public exhibitions throughout the Bay Area.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. If you require any special considerations(medical, physical, learning) please share them with Sean Baskin, Program Associate, by emailing him at [email protected] so that he can forward them to the relevant Program Director and Instructor.
Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed. You may reach out to the program directors directly, or the Program Associate Sean Baskin at [email protected] to request a late addition.
