About the Meeting
Makers Meeting Sessions are monthly community gatherings for our current members and newcomers alike. Over a common chosen topic within ceramics, we eat, converse, ask questions, and unapologetically explore the world of clay together.
Everyone is welcome to share in our potluck style gatherings, we encourage folks to bring a drink or snack to share. Check out our next round of Makers Meetings below.
About Rick Oginz, our March Presenter
Rick Oginz has been a working artist for many decades. Born in Philadelphia in 1944 he holds an BFA from Temple University/Tyler School of Art and an MFA from University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a Gregory Fellow at University of Leeds and has had studio practices in London UK, Los Angeles, Toronto Ontario, Oakland, CA and here in Sonoma. He was head of sculpture at Hornsey College of Art, London and Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles. He has also taught in the UCLA World Arts and Cultures Department, Glendale College, and at Seneca College, Toronto. Now retired from teaching, he makes multimedia works on paper such as his most recent series on Jack London’s Wolf House Ruins and ceramic sculpture which he began making in 2025 at the Sonoma Community Center. His work has been featured in many gallery and museum exhibitions and resides in many private and public collections. He won the Young Talent Award from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and was the subject of a career retrospective of his drawings there in the 1990s. Oginz will talk about the ceramics he has been making at the Community Center and how they relate to his artistic practice.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. If you require any special considerations(medical, physical, learning) please share them with Sean Baskin, Program Associate, by emailing him at [email protected] so that he can forward them to the relevant Program Director and Instructor.
Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed. You may reach out to the program directors directly, or the Program Associate Sean Baskin at [email protected] to request a late addition.
