A class that is all about pinching! With instructor Dan, students will learn handbuilding methods to coil and pitch their vessels. With specific direction in learning the techniques to build any size of pot, from a table top vase to a human sized vessel! We will learn how to support scaling up our forms through drying methods, interior ‘bone’ structure, and mastering directionality with our hands. There will be a focus on how we each make a mark upon a pot, and how to do so with purpose. Each student will create work that reflects the time-honored nature of handbuilding; when intention is given to the silhouette of a form, the lip of a vessel, and/or the comfort of a handle. Each class will involve a warmup, a demo, and worktime. Most classes will have (fun&thoughtful) homework. .
instructor Overview
Daniel Clauson
Daniel is a Queer and Trans Artist focusing mostly in ceramics. Dan utilizes their past experiences of gender dysphoria, relationships, and ‘home’ to influence their work. Connecting contradicting ideas of love and pain, trauma and acceptance, intimacy and ambiguity. From the University of Washington, Daniel received a Bachelors in Art in the 3D4M department, as well as a minor in Art History. Daniel has attended both the University of Colorado (Boulder) and the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) as a Post Baccalaureate in ceramics. This past Fall, they were one of the 2022 artists in residences at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

Class FAQ
We ask that you notify us at least 10 days in advance of a class if you need to cancel your registration. You may cancel by phone or email and we will gladly offer you a refund or credit toward a future class. If you cancel with less than 10 days’ notice, we will not be able to provide refunds, due to our contractual obligations and material purchases for each class.
Sometimes, the Sonoma Community Center has to cancel a class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, such as a natural disaster or health emergency. If this happens and we do not offer a reschedule date, you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee (minus the payment processing and services fee), or credit towards a future class. If we are able to offer a reschedule date but you are unable to make the new date, we will gladly offer credit towards a future class.
All credits must be used within 1 year.

The Sonoma Community Center is committed to creating an accessible learning environment. Late additions to any program, class, or workshop that has already begun will be allowed on a per-case basis depending upon the Program Director & instructors approval. Late additions will have to pay the full registration cost of the class, along with any materials fees, and will not be prorated for the time missed.
