Sonoma Upcycled Fashion Club (SUFClub)
Think thrift flips, streetwear and DIY fashion with a niche community of creatives!
program overview
Sonoma Upcycled Fashion Club (SUFClub) is an ongoing club for young adults/teens (14+) and the young at heart who want to make their clothes more interesting, more personal, and way more them. Meet us on the second Tuesday of every month for an evening of hands-on fashion hacking, creative experimentation, and community.
Time to cut, stitch, patch, deconstruct, reconstruct, customize, and completely rethink your project. This is a guided DIY experience so you can work on your own projects, swap ideas, learn from other makers, and receive guidance or help from professional upcycling designer and artist Xochitl of Coyote Creates.
The Fiber Arts Studio provides a third space in which you have access to irons, sewing machines, scissors, and all the textile supplies and tools you need.
All skill levels are welcome. Bring a friend to the club!
what to bring
- Bring clothing, bags, fabrics, and accessories you’re bored with, something you scored at the thrift store, or a garment that’s been sitting in the back of your closet waiting for its second chance.
- Any specialty materials you’d like to incorporate (optional), such as fabric, buttons, or sentimental patches
what’s included
- Use of studio sewing machines, mending tools, and basic supplies
- Thread, needles, patches, seam rippers, and materials
- Guidance and support as you work on your project
- A welcoming, collaborative environment and opportunity to create a niche community
Cost
This club is free to attend, but donations great and small are appreciated. They pay our wonderful Club monitor and help us keep community programming accessible, including use of studio equipment, shared tools, and basic mending materials.
Looking for Something Different?
If you’re interested in mending and repairing garments rather than creating them, join our Monthly Mending Bar on the fourth Thursday of each month, where we repair textile projects and learn practical mending skills.
Need more time to work on a project? Our weekly Fiber Arts Happy Hour meets Wednesdays from 4:00 PM –6:00 pm and offers open studio time for independent work on stitching, mending, knitting, crochet, weaving, and other fiber arts projects.

instructor Overview

Xochitl Hermosillo
Xochitl’s journey with textiles began in middle school after her desire to alter personal clothes to fit correctly and look more of her own. Thrifting was a perfect way to experiment with personal design as well as source funky fabrics to create skirts or bags. She launched a tie dye business “XOXO Tie Dye”, and shortly after regularly began creating skirts from sheets, PJ sets from old blankets, and capes out of curtains. Xochitl proudly continues to upcycle 100% of her fabric sourced from thrift stores or eBay.
Goodwill Industrial at Freestyle Clothing Exchange has partnered with Coyote Creates to promote the ability to dress fashionably while being eco and financially friendly. In 2025, her galaxy cape won 1st place in Napa Geek Out Con, and in 2026, her designs and Barbies were featured in Sonoma Community Center’s “Trashion Fashion Runway Show & “Barbies & Bags” Gallery Exhibit.
