This Free Open Studio is supported by Creative Sonoma

Learn runway design with recycled materials at this free Trashion Fashion workshop. Get tools, supplies, and expert guidance to create sustainable couture.

About the Class

Curious about being a Trashion Fashion runway designer and not sure where to start? Trashion Fashion 101: The Runway Edition is a free open studio, demo and Q&A with Spencer DeSylva, the Trashion Icon. This one is all about the runway experience that will take place at Sonoma Vet’s Hall on April 18th, 2026.

You will also have access to get started with space, tools, supplies and recycled materials from the Trash wall (donated materials) or feel free to BYOT (Bring your own Trash!) You will be able to continue your project at Fiber Arts Happy Hour on Wednesdays from 4 -6 pm or scheduling an open studio time after the 101 workshop. Find your Trashion community, create and collaborate.

Spencer has worn many Trashion hats from a social media manager to an Artist in Residence to becoming a mentor, teacher, and key member of the SCC Trashion Team. They turn trash into trashion, crap into couture, and garbage into glamour!

About your Instructor

Spencer DeSylva

Spencer DeSylva is a dedicated individual who is passionate about living an extravagant life in the arts, from globe-trotting to trashion fashion shows. They spent five years living in London and Manchester, U.K., where they graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Promotion from Manchester Metropolitan University. During their stay in the U.K., Spencer worked for various fashion names, including Paul Smith and Philip Treacy.

After exploring their passion for fashion illustration and working in art galleries, Spencer decided to fully devote their life to fashion and living fabulously. So far, they have been successful in this endeavor. After returning to Sonoma County, Spencer has made the annual Sonoma Trashion Fashion Show the centerpiece of their year. They host trashion classes, held a year-long trashion artist residency at the SCC, and occasionally steal the show, making them the resident Trashion Icon, 2025 Winning Designer of “Best Use of Non Recyclable Materials) and without whom Trashion Fashion would not be the same. But like any phenomenon, one cannot read about Spencer to understand them. You must experience them.
