2023 Trashion Fashion Runway Winners Announced
Sonoma Community Center’s beloved event, the Trashion Fashion Runway Show took place on Saturday, April 22nd, Earth Day, at the Sonoma Veteran’s Memorial Hall and was a smashing success! Two sold out shows that featured thirty-two entries of outrageous head-to-toe designs, made from recycled materials and found objects. Handmade by designers of all ages who participated from Sonoma Valley, Sonoma & Napa County, the Bay Area and even long distance from New Orleans. All designers rose to the challenge of turning trash into wearable art and strutting their stuff or having a model sashay down the forty-foot runway. Judging this year were New York City artist and Instagram sensation, Deborah Rapoport, Marie Kneemeyer from Recology Sonoma Marin, and Gretchen Turner of the San Francisco Fine Arts Museum Textile Council. Attendees of the Trashion Fashion Runway Shows voted at the end of each show for the Republic of Thrift People’s Choice awards. It was a very close run and often separated by only one point, but the 2023 winners have been announced and awarded. Congratulations to all who participated and look out in January 2024 for next year’s Runway Call for Entries!

Every April, Trashion Fashion celebrates the intersection of fashion, art, and environmental sustainability.
The main event is a runway show that features unique garments, made by community members from recycled or found and unlikely materials. Trashion also includes a gallery show of Barbies, saved from our local landfill and dressed in unique upcycled fashion, a free community Trash Bash party, and a Dogs on the Catwalk show for four-legged companions.
