About the class

What exactly is printmaking? We invite you into our print studio to experience this exciting art form! Join Kelly in this unique introduction to print through the world of monotype, relief, intaglio and stencil printing. We’ve expanded her popular multi-session workshop and extended it to five consecutive Monday night sessions. Explore one technique from four methods of printmaking in this special, hands-on, fun evening class! You will walk away feeling inspired with a portfolio of your own prints! You will gain a basic understanding of four classic techniques within the family of printmaking and be able to explore our equipment and member’s studio. This class is perfect for absolute beginners or even experienced artists who may need a refresher course in printmaking!

  • Monotype – Create a single print on a flat matrix using a variety of colors and playful textures.
  • Relief – Carve, ink and rub out a print using a mini speedy cut block and a linocut tool.
  • Intaglio – Draw, scratch and ink onto a plastic surface to roll out a creative print using a small press.
  • Stencil – Pull a screen and learn to cut, transfer and push ink through a flat stencil to make a printed impression.

All materials will be provided. No prior printmaking experience is necessary.

Please note: This class requires some hand dexterity to maneuver the carving tool. Participants should feel comfortable using tools with sharp blades and edges.

Please share any special considerations (medical, physical, learning) that will help your instructor make your class accessible and accommodating for you. You can share these considerations when register or by emailing Sean at sean@sonomacommunitycenter.org.
